Overview
TeachersAI combines AI-assisted marking with teacher review, giving you detailed, consistent feedback for every student without the manual workload. This article covers how to mark a submitted assessment, review AI-generated feedback, and finalise grades.
Accessing the Marking Screen
Once students have submitted their work, the assessment status on your assessments list will update to show the number of submissions awaiting review.
1. Go to your Assessments page.
2. Click on the assessment you want to mark.
3. Select a student from the list to open their submission.
Click on the 'AI Grade' button near the top right corner of the page.

The Grading Page
The grading page shows the student's full submission with each question and their response. The layout includes:
• Question type indicator — shows whether the question is short answer, long answer, multiple choice, or matching, helping you quickly orient yourself to each response.
• Student response — the student's full answer for each question.
• AI-generated marks and feedback — where the AI has assessed the response, a suggested score and feedback comment will be pre-populated. Review and adjust these as needed.
• Pre-grade indicator — for questions already marked by the AI, a pre-grade is shown so you can see the AI's assessment at a glance before reading the response in detail.
Reviewing and Editing AI Feedback
TeachersAI's AI will attempt to mark each student's response based on the rubric and criteria you set up. To review and edit:
4. Read the student's response and the AI-suggested feedback.
5. If the feedback is accurate, leave it as-is.
6. If you want to change the score, click into the relevant field and edit directly.
7. Once you are happy with all questions for a student, click Save Progress to save your changes without finalising.

Marking with a Rubric
If your assessment uses a marking rubric, each criterion will be listed on the grading page. For each criterion:
• The AI will suggest a performance level based on the student's response.
• You can click on a different level to override the AI's selection.
• Points are calculated automatically based on the level you select.

Once all criteria are marked (and work saved or finalised), an overall rubric score is calculated and shown at the top of the grading panel.
Finalising Grades
When you are satisfied with the marks and feedback for a student:
8. Click Finalise Grade (or similar button — check your screen).
9. The student's results will be locked and made visible to them.
10. The student's status will update to Graded on your assessments list.
You can return to adjust feedback at any time before the student views their results, or after — but note that once finalised, further changes will be visible to the student.
AI Marking Safety
TeachersAI includes safeguards to ensure AI-generated marks are fair and appropriate. All AI suggestions go through a safety review before being presented to you. No AI score or feedback is sent to students until you review and approve it. You are always in control of the final mark.
